A Man who pleaded guilty to possessing amphetamine has been ordered to forfeit more than £2,000 cash by the courts.

Peter Bebbington, 61, of Weaver Street, Winsford was ordered to pay a £150 fine and £60 costs when he appeared at Northwich Magistrates Court in July. He was arrested in April following a drugs warrant carried out at his home.

On Friday (October 23), following a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing at North Cheshire Magistrates Court in Warrington, the court ordered the forfeiture of £2,127.40 seized from Mr Bebbington following his arrest.

The cash was confiscated under provisions of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 as it was "believed to have come from, or intended to be used in unlawful conduct"

Insp David Snasdell of the Winsford Neighnourhood Policing Unit said:" The proceeds of crime act gives police the ability to seize cash over £1,000 from any person if they have the grounds to believe the mony has come from criminal activity or is going to be used in criminal activity."

"In this case, the criteria was met and the money seized by the court."
