The eagerly awaited launch of Cheshire West and Chester Council will happen on Wednesday 1st April, with a fanfare of events.

The historic day will be the start of a fresh and energetic approach to providing top-quality services for communities across the new borough.  And, as part of the celebration, an open top bus will be touring the area, carrying the new councillors and a 12-piece band.

The bus will leave County Hall in Chester at 10.30am and will be stopping off at Sainsbury's in Boughton, Morrisons in Winsford, Baron's Quay in Northwich, Asda in Ellesmere Port and then back to Chester.

Cllr Mike Jones, Leader of the Council, is delighted to get the new authority underway. He said "This is not simply the hand over of responsibilities, our new Council will think and act differently."

"The projects that we inherit will be continued with added vigour and new projects will be introduced to tackle issues facing our communities and to give the people of this borough a better life."

He added: "It is my intention that this Council will earn a reputation as a high-achieving organisation that listens to its communities and acts to make them better."

Cllr Brenda Dowding is joining the new authority from Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council and is the new Lead Councillor for Adult Services. She is looking forward to the fresh new approach. She said: "Our focus on community engagement is going to mark us out as different and will give people the chance to be part of what we are doing. "She added: 'The procedures are already in place to make it easier to contact us, and to give people a real opportunity to influence decisions."

As part of the launch of Cheshire West and Chester, Councillor Mike Jones, the Leader of the Council and Steve Robinson, the Chief Executive, will be talking to Cheshire FM listeners at around 11am on the Day Time Show.

This is an important day for Cheshire FM listeners and the residents of Cheshire West and Chester so be sure to be tuned to 92.5 Cheshire FM.
