On Tuesday 22nd September work starts to install new toddler play-equipment in Lostock Gralam's new state-of-the-art play-area on Stubbs Lane. The work will mean the completion of a project to provide a play-area for children of all ages.

The play area's junior equipment has become extremely popular since it was completed in December 2008. Since then, the organisations leading the project - Friends of Stubbs Lane Play Area, Lostock Gralam Parish Council and Groundwork Cheshire - have worked to secure the additional funding needed for the toddler play-area. Now The Veolia Environmental Trust has offered to foot a large part of the bill so that the younger children of Lostock Gralam have somewhere to play too.

The Trust has awarded a grant of £25,000 through the Landfill Communities Fund to complete the project, with Cheshire West and Chester Council (£6,286) and Lostock Gralam Parish Council (£4,864.00) contributing the rest.

The new play equipment will include a multi-play unit, a hippo springer and a play train. Additional seating, cycle racks, fencing, gates and planting will complement the new equipment.

Groundwork Cheshire Project Manager Beth Brockett says: "We have been delighted with the success of the junior play area and are very pleased that we could assist the Parish Council in sourcing the additional funding - many thanks to The Veolia Environmental Trust and the local authority for enabling us to complete the project".

Nicola Clerk, the Lostock Gralam Parish Clerk says:  "This is the final piece of the jigsaw to complete the play area at Stubbs Lane and we are very grateful to both Veolia and Cheshire West and Chester Council for their contribution."

Veolia Environmental Trust says: "The Trust supports community and environmental projects across the UK and it is one of our priorities to support projects like this. I look forward to seeing the new toddler play-equipment installed and being enjoyed."

Cheshire West and Chester local Councillor Malcolm Byram says: "The council is pleased to be part of this scheme which will give Lostock toddlers the wonderful play facilities they deserve. It's important that our communities have safe up to date amenities and we congratulate everyone who has been involved in bringing about these improvements".
