Police in Winsford have joined community workers to celebrate the opening of a new community centre in the town.

 

Winsford Community Action Project (WINCAP) has taken over management of The Edge (formerly the Winsford centre) for use as a community centre, run by the community for the community.

 

More than 400 people attended the opening celebrations and fun day on Saturday October 31.

 

Representatives from Connexions, Weaver Vale Housing Trust, In-Training, Cheshire West & Chester Council, Winsford Youth Forum, Cheshire (Gypsy & Traveller) Voice, Connect Volunteering and Enterprise Coach Projects also attended to show the community what they had to offer.

Activities from arts and crafts and bouncy castles to sumo wrestling and face painting were put on to entertain the crowds.

 

PCSO Kevin McShane who serves the area attended on his day off to show support. He said:" It was great to see so many people working together for the community. People from all over Winsford came along and everyone seemed to having a great time."

 

Jill McQuaid, Chair of WINCAP, said: "Let's hope this is the first of many events in The Edge."
